Help First-Time Penitents Prepare to Meet Jesus in Reconciliation
This worksheet set presents what is said and when it is said during a child’s first confession. It is laid out as an exchange between the child and the priest with image reminders to aid in understanding. The dialog exchange said by each party is highlighted in italics.
The second sheet is designed to be either a review sheet or a lesson sheet, if what you would like to highlight varies from the presented script. As each priest conducts the process in a slightly different way using words according to the norm of their diocese or culture, it was thought that a blank dialog sheet could be useful.
The Act of Contrition prayer is presented in this set. The version in this resource is as follows.
"O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. I detest all my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.”
An alternate version of this resource is available for returning penitents as well as with an alternate version of the Act of Contrition.
