Focus on the Sunday Gospel for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Use this unit study to help teach children about becoming a disciple of Christ and that Jesus wants us to follow Him all the time. This lesson is based on the Gospel of St. Luke 14:25-33.
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus explains the intricacies of being His follower. Not only does it take dedication, but following Christ requires complete trust and reliance on God. As Christians, we must be willing to carry our cross, die to self, step outside our comfort zone, and imitate Christ. Joyfully accepting God’s will for us can be very difficult and uncomfortable at times, but it can be done. Dealing with illness is one practical example of this. Jesus leads us, and He wants us to follow Him all the time.
