Focus on the Sunday Gospel for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Use this unit study to help teach children the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican and that we must have the right attitude when we pray. This lesson is based on the Gospel of St. Luke 18:9-14.
This week’s Gospel teaches us that we must have a humble attitude when we approach God in prayer. The parable of the Pharisee and publican illustrates what prayer should be for each believer; that is, an opportunity to go before the Lord in humility seeking love and mercy. We are reminded not to pray with arrogance and compare ourselves to others, nor should we be overly mindful of the errors of others. We must have the right attitude when we pray.
