Focus on the Sunday Gospel for the Solemnity of Christ the King.
Use this unit study to help teach children that Jesus is the King of Heaven. This lesson is based on the Gospel of St. Luke 23:35-43.
This week’s Gospel celebrates Jesus as the King of the Universe, and thus the King of Heaven. We must remember that our life’s goal is to live with Christ in everlasting peace and joy, which is Heaven! At His crucifixion, Jesus speaks to one of the robbers who is dying with Him. The man admits that he is sinful, and he asks Jesus to remember him when He enters into His Kingdom. Jesus, the King of Heaven, promises the thief entry to Heaven that very same day. Even while suffering on the cross, our Lord mercifully reaches out to heal a sinful soul.
