Focus on the Sunday Gospel for the 2nd Sunday of Advent.
Use this unit study to help teach children about preparing to encounter Christ during Advent. This lesson is based on Luke 3:1-6.
In this week’s Gospel, St. John the Baptist preaches his message of the baptism of penance in the desert. He called sinners to repent and prepare to encounter the Christ. That message is still delivered today. The season of Advent is the time to prepare ourselves to encounter Christ through prayer, going to confession, receiving the Holy Eucharist, and symbolically celebrating the season with a wreath and candles.
