Focus on the Sunday Gospel for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Use this unit study to help teach children about loving God. It is based on Christ's teaching of the Greatest Commandment in the Gospel of St. Matthew 22:34-40.
In this lesson, we learn that God wants us to love Him in some very special ways. In fact, Jesus teaches us the most important commandment that we need to keep. Christ says in Matthew 22:37-40, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.” These two rules are a summary of all God’s laws, and they are both about love. We show God love when we think of Him often, talk to Him in prayer, put Him first in our lives, and treat others with kindness and charity.
